Inflammation of the pericardium = inflammation of the 2 foils, one that surrounds the heart and one that comes in contact with neighboring organs. Once with the inflammation of the pericardium, it can lead to excessive accumulation of fluid between the two membranes.
Chest pain occurs on the left and retrosternal area. The pain may radiate to other areas.
Pain is constriction-like, weight or stabbing in the chest and worsens when the patient is lying down or when coughing or deep inspiration.
Other events that may occur are fever, chills, fatigue, malaise.
