Definition
Inflammation of cartilage located in back of the tongue due to a bacterial infection.
Cause
- The most common is a bacterial infection with Haemophilus influenzae
- Infection with other bacterial agents
Signs and symptoms
This disease occurs mainly in children over two, but may also be present in adults, manifested by sudden shortness of breath, continuous lack of air with installation of fever and confusion.
The child refuses food because there is pain or discomfort when swallowing.
