The suffering caused by abnormal electrical impulses that affect the activity of neurons in the brain.
Seizures are the main manifestation of the disease. The patient may have mild convulsions (simple muscular contractions) or fixed eyes for a few moments, to severe seizures, uncontrolled movements and inability to maintain balance.
Other signs: memory problems, strictly related to epileptic episodes, but not required to be present in all patients.
