Definition
Over reaction of the immune system to the ingestion of certain foods.
Cause
- Consumption of foods to which the patient is allergic
- Here are some foods commonly found in food allergies: peanuts, fish, seafood, eggs
Signs and symptoms
Food reactions manifest differently in each person, but we find common elements among them: trouble with breathing due to swelling of the face, tongue, throat, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash.
Symptoms can occur within minutes to several hours after eating the food.
Hygienic-dietary rules
- Avoid eating foods that you know you are allergic to
- If you know you had a severe allergic reaction in the past, always carry your epinephrine injection with you
