Definition
Hiatal hernia is partial or total migration of the stomach into the chest cavity.
Cause
Signs and symptoms
Not all hiatal hernia have symptoms.
Patients who are symptomatic show burning pain in the upper abdomen and chest.
Besides pain, patients may experience gastric fluid and food return from the stomach into the esophagus or sometimes even in mouth.
Also, patient experiences nausea.
Hygienic-dietary rules
- Avoid smoking
- Do not drink fizzy drinks
- Avoid coffee, chocolate, onions and garlic
- Have dinner 2 hours before going to bed
- Sleep with your head on a big pillow
