MUSCLE STRAIN
Definition
Suffering in which muscle fibers undergo changes (such as stretching or cracks) caused in most cases by exercising vigorously or not warming up before an effort.
Cause
- Physical effort
- Physical fatigue
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Dehydration
Signs and symptoms
Involuntary muscle contractions that may be followed by pain of high intensity. The most affected areas are the legs and thighs.
This episode lasts about a minute.
These symptoms may recur.
Hygienic-dietary rules
- Before any exercise do a preliminary warming-up of all muscles
- Massaging the affected muscle
- The local application of ice or hot water compresses in halves of 7-10 minutes. (Do not put ice directly on the skin, use a towel)
- To stimulate blood circulation raise the member whose muscles were affected above the level of the heart
