Definition
Pleurisy is inflammation of foils lining the lungs and chest wall.
Cause
- Pneumonia
- Chest trauma
- Viral infection
- Pneumothorax
- Pulmonary tuberculosis
- Rib fractures
- Pleural effusion syndrome
- Other causes
Signs and symptoms
Patients with pleurisy have difficulty in breathing accompanied by chest pain. Such pain may get worse during coughing, sneezing or deep inspiration.
If fever and muscle pain develop it can be suspected bacterial cause.
