Definition
Inflammation of the vagina, most often of bacterial origin.
Cause
- Candida albicans infection
- Infection with trichomonas
- Predisposing factors menopause

Signs and symptoms
The increase of the amount of vaginal discharge, colour change of vaginal discharge to white cheese or gray, and of odor to one that bothers, all accompanied by local burning and itching.
One may have pain during intercourse and urination. Slight bleeding may also occur.
Hygienic-dietary rules
- Use condoms as a means of protection
- Use only underwear containing natural fibers (cotton)
- Avoid too frequent vaginal douches
- Avoid soaps or shower gels with strong antibacterial effect
- Beware of antibiotic treatments
